In September 2022, founder Yvon Chouinard transferred all voting shares (about 2% of total company shares) to the Patagonia Purpose Trust, a trust overseen by the Chouinard family dedicated to using Patagonia’s profits for philanthropic environmental purposes. The other 98% of company shares were transferred to the Holdfast Collective, a grantmaking organization that advocates for environmentalist policy. The two nonprofits will donate 100% of Patagonia’s future profits (roughly $100 million annually as of 2022) to environmentalist efforts.
