Estrella is one of Sweden's most iconic and established snack brands, founded in 1957 by Folke Andersson after he was inspired by potato chips in New York. While Estrella initially made its name producing potato chips in Alingsås and later Angered (Gothenburg), Sweden, its product portfolio soon expanded to nuts, popcorn, and other savory snacks.
While Estrella's famous potato chips continue to be manufactured at their primary factory in Angered outside Gothenburg, nut products such as Estrella Jordnötter (peanuts) are typically processed and packaged within Intersnack's specialized nut roasting and packaging facilities in Europe, primarily in Poland, using globally sourced peanuts.
Today, Estrella is fully owned by the Intersnack Group, a major European snack food manufacturer headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany. In Sweden, operations are managed via the subsidiary Estrella Sverige AB (formerly Estrella Maarud). Note that while other brands worldwide may use the Estrella name (such as Estrella Damm beer from Spain), they are completely unrelated entities.
