Discover where a brand or product originates
Wasa was founded in Sweden in 1919 by baker Karl Edvard Lundström under the name AB Wasabröd, taking its inspiration from Swedish King Gustav Vasa. While best known globally as the world's largest producer of crispbread, Wasa has expanded its product line to include whole grain snacks, breakfast biscuits, and sweet bakes like Berry Flakes Biscuits.
Since 1999, the Wasa brand has been wholly owned by the Italian food multinational Barilla Group. Wasa crispbread continues to be predominantly baked in Filipstad, Sweden, and Celle, Germany, while biscuit and specialty bakery items in the Wasa line are largely manufactured in Barilla's specialized Italian bakery facilities.
