Braun is a globally recognized German premium brand for electrical appliances. Founded by Max Braun in Frankfurt in 1921, the company initially produced radio components before expanding into power tools and eventually its iconic electric shavers and household appliances. The brand became a pioneer of modern industrial design under the leadership of Dieter Rams, who established the 'less, but better' design philosophy.
Today, the manufacturing of Braun products is distributed globally, with primary production facilities remaining in Germany (specifically in Kronberg and Walldürn for high-end shavers) while other products are manufactured in China, Mexico, and Poland. This global manufacturing footprint allows the brand to maintain high engineering standards while scaling production for international markets.
The ownership of Braun is unique due to a split licensing agreement. In 2005, the brand was acquired by Procter & Gamble (P&G). While P&G retains full ownership of the Braun brand and its core grooming categories (electric shavers, epilators, and hair care), they licensed the Braun brand name to the Italian De'Longhi Group in 2012 for use in the small household appliance category, such as hand blenders and steam irons. As of 2026, P&G remains the ultimate corporate owner based in the United States.
