L'Occitane en Provence, often simply known as L'Occitane, is a premium international retailer of body, face, fragrances, and home products. The brand was founded in 1976 by Olivier Baussan with the purpose of celebrating and preserving the traditions of his native Provence. The product shown is the Extra-Gentle Lotion, part of their famous Shea Butter line.
Historically and today, the vast majority of L'Occitane products are manufactured at their facility in Manosque, France. The brand prides itself on its Mediterranean roots and uses natural ingredients sourced primarily from the Provence region, while their shea butter is specifically sourced through a fair-trade partnership with women's cooperatives in Burkina Faso.
The L'Occitane Group has evolved into a multi-brand international group which was publicly listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. In 2024, the company underwent a significant transition toward private ownership by its billionaire chairman, Reinold Geiger. The group remains headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and Luxembourg, maintaining its premium positioning in the global beauty market.
