Ecover was founded in 1979 in Malle, Belgium, by Frans Bogaerts. It was a pioneer in the eco-friendly cleaning industry, focusing on phosphate-free soaps to protect the aquatic environment. The company quickly became a market leader in sustainable cleaning products, known for its plant-based and mineral-based ingredients as well as its commitment to biodegradable formulas.
In 2012, Ecover acquired the American eco-cleaning brand Method, forming the company People Against Dirty. Later, in 2017, the SC Johnson company acquired People Against Dirty (which includes both Ecover and Method brands), bringing these ecological pioneers under the umbrella of a massive global consumer goods corporation.
The product is primarily manufactured at Ecover's ecological factory in Malle, Belgium. This facility was the first 'ecological factory' in the world and continues to serve as the brand's production hub for European markets.
