KitKat is an internationally recognized chocolate-covered wafer bar that was originally created by Rowntree's of York, United Kingdom, in 1935. Following the acquisition of Rowntree's in 1988, the brand moved under the ownership of Nestlé, a leading global food and beverage company headquartered in Switzerland.
Today, KitKat is produced in numerous countries around the world to meet global demand. While Nestlé produces and distributes the brand globally, in the United States, it is manufactured under license by the H.B. Reese Candy Company, a division of The Hershey Company. This unique arrangement stems from a long-standing licensing agreement that predates Nestlé's acquisition of the brand.
