Ecover is a pioneering brand in the ecological cleaning sector, recognized for creating the world's first phosphate-free laundry detergent. Founded in 1979 in Malle, Belgium, the company was established by environmental advocates who sought to create effective cleaning solutions that did not harm aquatic life or the broader ecosystem. The brand quickly became a global leader in sustainable household products, emphasizing plant-based ingredients and recyclable packaging.

Over the decades, Ecover expanded its manufacturing footprint, most notably building the world's first 'ecological factory' in Malle, Belgium, featuring a green roof and sustainable architecture. In 2012, Ecover acquired the American green-cleaning brand Method, forming People Against Dirty.
