Braun healthcare products, including their well-known digital thermometers, have a rich history rooted in German engineering and design. The Braun brand was originally founded by Max Braun in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1921. While Braun became a subsidiary of The Gillette Company in 1967 and later moved under the Procter & Gamble (P&G) umbrella in 2005, the specific line of healthcare devices—including the ThermoScan ear thermometers—is currently managed through a long-term licensing partnership.

In 2006, Kaz, Inc. acquired Braun's body thermometer and blood pressure monitor business from P&G. Kaz, which was subsequently acquired by Helen of Troy Limited in 2011, holds a perpetual license to manufacture and market these health devices under the Braun brand name.

Today, manufacturing for Braun thermometers is concentrated in two primary locations. High-end models, such as the ThermoScan 5 and 7 series, are frequently produced in Mexico, whereas other entry-level or non-contact digital models are often manufactured in China to leverage global supply chain efficiencies. Despite this international production footprint, the brand continues to lean on the modernist design principles and German engineering heritage established during the era of Dieter Rams.
