KitKat Gold Crush is a modern variation of the classic chocolate-covered wafer bar, featuring caramelized white chocolate and crisp wafer fingers. The KitKat brand itself has a rich history originating in the United Kingdom; it was first launched by Rowntree's in York in 1935 as Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp before being renamed Kit Kat in 1937.

In the Oceania region, including New Zealand and Australia, KitKat products are manufactured locally by Nestlé Australia at their Campbellfield factory in Victoria. For the New Zealand market, the products are distributed via Nestlé New Zealand. Global ownership of the brand transitioned in 1988 when the Swiss multinational Nestlé S.A. acquired Rowntree's, though it is important to note that Hershey holds the license to produce KitKat within the United States. Outside the US, Nestlé remains the ultimate owner and primary manufacturer.
