Wasa is a historic Swedish brand founded in 1919 by Karl Edvard Lundström in Skellefteå. The name was chosen to honor the Swedish King Gustav Vasa. The brand became famous for its traditional rye crispbread, a staple of Scandinavian diets known for its long shelf life and nutritional value. Over the decades, Wasa grew into the world's largest producer of crispbread. In 1999, the brand was acquired by the Italian food giant Barilla Group. Today, while maintaining its Swedish heritage and branding, the manufacturing is primarily split between its original large-scale bakery in Filipstad, Sweden, and a major production facility in Celle, Germany. The brand emphasizes sustainability, having achieved CO2 neutrality across its production processes.
