Kit Kat originated in the United Kingdom, created by Rowntree's of York in 1935 as Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp. It was later renamed Kit Kat Chocolate Crisp in 1937 and eventually just Kit Kat. The brand became a global phenomenon, known for its unique wafer-filled chocolate bars and the iconic 'Have a break, have a Kit Kat' slogan.

In 1988, the Swiss multinational Nestlé acquired Rowntree's, taking global ownership of the brand, except in the United States where it is produced under license by the Hershey Company. Manufacturing is highly decentralized with major production facilities located in the UK, United Arab Emirates, Bulgaria, Japan, and Australia to serve different regional markets. The 'Chunky' variant shown here was introduced in 1999 to cater to consumers looking for a more substantial snack.
