Wasa is the world's largest producer of crispbread, with a heritage dating back to 1919 when the company was founded in Skellefteå, Sweden. The brand name is a reference to the Swedish King Gustaf Vasa. This specific product, Falu, is one of their most iconic varieties, known for its mild flavor and airy texture.
While the brand remains synonymous with Swedish food culture, it has undergone several ownership changes over the decades. Originally an independent Swedish company, it was acquired by the Swiss beverage company Sandoz in 1982. In 1999, ownership shifted to the Italian food giant Barilla Group. Today, Wasa products are manufactured in Sweden and Germany, maintaining their traditional recipes under international ownership while continuing to be a staple in the Swedish diet.
