The brand as we know it today was established in 1984 through a partnership between marketing visionary Dietrich Mateschitz and the owner of the original Thai recipe, Chaleo Yoovidhya. Together, they modified the flavor and adapted the branding for the international market, launching in Austria in 1987.

Manufacturing is primarily concentrated in the Alpine regions of Austria and Switzerland to ensure a high level of water quality and global consistency. The brand operates a unique ownership structure where the Yoovidhya family holds a 51% majority share, while the Mateschitz family owns 49%. Red Bull has grown into a global powerhouse, not only in the beverage industry but as a major player in extreme sports and Formula 1 media and marketing.
