Ecover is a pioneering brand in the ecological cleaning industry, founded in 1979 in Malle, Belgium. The brand gained international recognition for its commitment to developing plant-based, biodegradable cleaning products that minimize environmental impact. Its first product, a phosphate-free laundry detergent, set the tone for a brand ethos centered on sustainable chemistry and eco-conscious packaging.
In 2012, Ecover merged with the American brand Method to form People Against Dirty, significantly expanding its global reach. The company was subsequently acquired by S.C. Johnson & Son in 2017, a move that integrated Ecover's green expertise with the logistical power of a major multinational. Today, Ecover products are manufactured primarily at their world-famous ecological factory in Belgium, which features a grass-covered roof and utilizes sustainable water cycles, though manufacturing also occurs in other regional facilities to support global demand.
