Estrella Brynt Smör (Browned Butter) is a popular potato chip flavor from one of Sweden's most iconic snack brands. The brand was founded in 1946 by Algot Erlandsson, who was inspired by the snack culture in the United States. He established the first factory in Alingsås, Sweden, and later moved production to Angered, Gothenburg, where the chips are still produced today using Swedish potatoes.
Since its inception, Estrella has undergone several ownership changes. It was owned by companies like Marabou, Kraft Foods (later Mondelez), and Frito-Lay. Ultimately, in 2014, Estrella was acquired by the German-headquartered snack giant Intersnack Group. Today, Estrella remains the leading brand in the Swedish market for chips and snacks, combining its local Swedish manufacturing heritage with the scale of a major European conglomerate.
