Founded in 1912 by the Carlone family in Campobasso, Molise, it has built a reputation for its integrated supply chain ('Filiera Integrata'), which means the company controls the entire process from the grain to the final product. The brand utilizes high-quality wheat and pure mountain water from the Matese massif.

After facing financial difficulties in the early 21st century, the brand was acquired in 2011 by the Ferro family (Fratelli Ferro), a dynasty of millers with over a century of experience. Under the ownership of the Ferro Group, La Molisana has undergone a major revitalization, expanding its global footprint and modernizing its facilities while maintaining traditional methods like stone-de-husking and bronze die extrusion. Today, it remains a family-owned Italian company headquartered in Campobasso.
