De Ruijter is a quintessential Dutch brand with a prestigious history dating back to 1860. Founded by Cornelis Rutgerus de Ruijter in Baarn, the company initially gained fame for its 'muisjes' (anise seed sprinkles), which became a traditional celebratory treat for the birth of a child in the Netherlands. Over more than a century and a half, the brand expanded into a wide variety of breakfast toppings, including the 'Vlokken' (chocolate flakes) shown here.
Traditionally associated with Dutch morning and lunch rituals, these chocolate flakes are produced primarily in the Netherlands to maintain their authentic texture and flavor profile. The brand's long-standing quality earned it the title of 'Purveyor to the Royal Household' (Hofleverancier), as reflected by the crown in their logo. Following a series of mergers in the food industry, De Ruijter was acquired by CSM and eventually became part of the international Heinz portfolio, which merged with Kraft to form the global food giant The Kraft Heinz Company.
