The name 'Wasa' pays homage to King Gustav Vasa, a symbol of Swedish national identity. Today, Wasa is the largest manufacturer of crispbread worldwide. Although its heritage is Swedish, a significant portion of its modern production, particularly for gluten-free and specialty lines, occurs in Germany (notably in Celle). The brand was acquired by the Italian multinational food giant Barilla Group in 1999.
