Estrella is a foundational brand in the Nordic snack market, synonymous with potato chips and savory snacks in Sweden. The brand was established in 1946 by Folke Andersson, who was inspired by the snack culture he encountered in South America. The name 'Estrella' itself means 'star' in Spanish, reflecting these origins.
The Ostringar product is a staple of the Swedish 'Fredagsmys' (Friday coziness) tradition, known for its light, crispy texture and cheesy seasoning. These snacks are primarily manufactured at the dedicated Estrella production facility located in Angered, just outside of Gothenburg, Sweden, which has been the heart of the brand's production for decades.
While originally a Swedish family-founded enterprise, the brand's ownership has evolved through several international conglomerates, including Kraft Foods and Pepsico. Today, Estrella is owned by Intersnack Group, a major German-based multinational snack food manufacturer. Intersnack oversees the brand through its Nordic subsidiary, maintaining the local heritage of the product while benefiting from a global logistics and supply chain network.
