KitKat is an iconic confectionery brand that traces its origins back to York, England, where it was first introduced by Rowntree's in 1935 as 'Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp'. The name 'Kit Kat' was inspired by the 18th-century Kit-Cat Club in London. Since its inception, the brand has grown into a global phenomenon, recognized by its unique finger-wafer structure and the famous 'Have a break, have a KitKat' slogan.

In 1988, the Swiss multinational Nestlé acquired Rowntree's, becoming the brand's global owner. For the UK market, including the Double Chocolate sharing bar shown, production primarily takes place at Nestlé’s historic factory in York. While Nestlé produces KitKat in multiple countries worldwide to meet regional demand, the brand remains deeply rooted in British heritage. It is important to note that in the United States, KitKat is produced under license by The Hershey Company rather than Nestlé directly, due to a long-standing agreement predating the acquisition.
