Estrella is a iconic Swedish brand established in 1946 by Folke Andersson, who was inspired by the snack culture in New York. The company pioneered the production of potato chips in Sweden, launching its first chips in 1957.
The brand's production is primarily based in its factory in Angered, outside of Gothenburg, Sweden, which serves the Nordic market. Over the decades, ownership has changed hands several times; it was previously part of the Kraft Foods empire (Philip Morris) and later owned by various investment firms.
Since 2014, Estrella has been owned by Intersnack Group, a major German manufacturer of savory snacks. It operates under the umbrella of Estrella Maarud Holding, which manages the brand across the Nordic and Baltic regions.
