KitKat chocolate wafer bar

KitKat is an iconic four-finger chocolate-covered wafer bar that has become a global confectionery staple. The brand was originally created by Rowntree's in York, United Kingdom, in 1935 under the name 'Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp' before being renamed to Kit Kat in 1937.

Today, KitKat is produced in numerous countries to supply local and regional markets, including manufacturing facilities in the UK, United Arab Emirates, Australia, Japan, and the United States. While the brand is famous worldwide for its association with the 'Have a break' slogan, the ownership structure is split geographically.

Nestlé acquired Rowntree's in 1988 and serves as the ultimate owner of the brand globally, except in the United States. In the US market, KitKat is produced by The Hershey Company under a perpetual licensing agreement with Nestlé. Despite this regional licensing deal, Nestlé remains the primary global owner of the trademark and recipe.
