The brand started in the city of Skellefteå and has since become one of the most recognized Swedish food brands globally. In 1999, Wasa was acquired by the Italian food giant Barilla Group. Today, the brand's production is primarily centralized in two major facilities: Filipstad, Sweden, and Celle, Germany. The Sandwich product line is often manufactured in Germany for the European market.
