Duracell Watch Battery

Duracell is a world-renowned brand specializing in the production of alkaline batteries and specialty cells. The brand was officially introduced in 1964, though its roots trace back to the early 1920s through the partnership of scientist Samuel Ruben and businessman Philip Rogers Mallory, forming the P.R. Mallory Company. The name 'Duracell' itself is a portmanteau of 'durable cell,' reflecting the brand's focus on long-lasting power.

Throughout its history, Duracell has undergone several major ownership changes. It was acquired by Dart Industries in 1978, which later merged with Kraft. In 1988, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) took the company private in a massive leveraged buyout. It was then purchased by Gillette in 1996, which subsequently became part of Procter & Gamble (P&G) in 2005. In 2016, Berkshire Hathaway, led by Warren Buffett, acquired Duracell from P&G in a multi-billion dollar stock swap deal, and it remains the ultimate owner today.

Manufacturing for Duracell products is a global operation. While a significant portion of their alkaline batteries are produced in the United States (notably in Georgia and Tennessee), specialty cells like the silver oxide watch batteries shown in the image are produced in several international locations, including Belgium and China, to support their global distribution network.
