KitKat is one of the world's most iconic chocolate brands, originally launched by Rowntree's in York, United Kingdom, in 1935 as Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp. It was later rebranded to KitKat in 1937. The brand's signature 'Have a break, have a KitKat' slogan has made it a global household name.
In 1988, the Swiss multinational Nestlé acquired Rowntree's, taking over global production and distribution for most of the world. However, due to a prior licensing agreement, the brand is manufactured and sold by The Hershey Company in the United States. Outside of the U.S., Nestlé remains the ultimate owner and producer, with manufacturing plants located across the globe including the UK, Japan, Australia, and various European and Asian nations.
