Kit Kat is one of the world's most recognizable chocolate bars, consisting of crisp wafers covered in smooth chocolate. The brand was originally launched by Rowntree's of York in the United Kingdom in 1935 as 'Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp' before being renamed to Kit Kat in 1937. Since then, it has grown into a global phenomenon known for its iconic 'Have a break' marketing campaign.

The global ownership of Kit Kat is unique due to a licensing agreement. In 1988, the Swiss multinational Nestlé acquired Rowntree's, becoming the global owner of the brand. However, in the United States, the brand is manufactured and distributed by The Hershey Company under a long-term licensing agreement established with Rowntree's prior to the Nestlé acquisition.

Manufacturing takes place in numerous facilities worldwide to meet regional demand. The original factory in York, UK, remains a primary production hub, while other major facilities are located in countries such as Japan, Australia, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates. The Japanese market is particularly famous for producing hundreds of unique regional and seasonal flavors that are not available elsewhere.
