LU (Lefèvre-Utile) is one of the most iconic biscuit brands in the world, originating from Nantes, France. The brand was founded in 1846 by Jean-Romain Lefèvre and Pauline-Isabelle Utile, who combined their initials to create the name 'LU'. The brand became famous for its Petit-Beurre biscuit, which remains a staple of French tea time and a global favorite for its simple yet high-quality ingredients.
Today, LU products are manufactured in multiple countries across Europe and other regions to serve global demand, though they maintain a strong production presence in France. The manufacturing process adheres to the traditional recipes and quality standards established over a century ago, ensuring that the signature taste and texture of their biscuits remain consistent regardless of the production site.
While originally a family-run French business, LU underwent several ownership changes during the late 20th century, eventually becoming part of the Danone Group. In 2007, the brand was acquired by Mondelēz International (formerly Kraft Foods). Mondelēz, a global snacks powerhouse headquartered in the United States, continues to manage the brand's international distribution and marketing, positioning LU as a premium heritage biscuit brand in its diverse portfolio.
