KitKat is a chocolate-covered wafer bar confection created originally by Rowntree's of York in the United Kingdom in 1935. Following decades of success as a British snack icon, the brand was acquired by Nestlé in 1988, which significantly expanded its global footprint.
While KitKat is a global brand with production facilities worldwide, the version seen in this image (typical for the UK and Ireland market) is primarily manufactured at Nestlé's large-scale production facility in York, England. The brand remains under the ultimate ownership of Nestlé S.A., a Swiss multinational food and drink conglomerate.
Interestingly, ownership of the KitKat brand is split geographically: Nestlé owns the global rights except in the United States, where the product is produced under license by the H.B. Reese Candy Company, a division of The Hershey Company. However, for all other international markets depicted in this style of packaging, Nestlé remains the sole ultimate owner.
