The 'Chunky' version shown here was introduced in 1999 as a single, thicker bar compared to the traditional four-finger snap bar.

Manufacturing for the European market primarily takes place in York, UK, and Sofia, Bulgaria, while global production spans numerous facilities in countries such as United Arab Emirates, Australia, and Brazil. The brand is famously known for its 'Have a break, have a KitKat' slogan and its commitment to sustainable sourcing through the Nestlé Cocoa Plan. In the United States, KitKat is produced under license by The Hershey Company due to a prior agreement with Rowntree, but everywhere else in the world, the brand is owned and managed by Nestlé.
