KitKat is a world-renowned chocolate-covered wafer bar confection. It was originally created by Rowntree's in York, United Kingdom, in 1935 as Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp. The brand was later renamed KitKat and became a global icon of the confectionery world.

Following the acquisition of Rowntree's by Nestlé in 1988, the brand's production and distribution expanded significantly under the Swiss multinational. Today, Nestlé owns and produces KitKat globally, with the exception of the United States, where it is produced under license by Hershey. Development and manufacturing for European markets are primarily handled in facilities across the UK, Germany, and Bulgaria, ensuring consistent quality and sustainable cocoa sourcing as highlighted on the packaging.
