Pickwick is a storied Dutch tea brand with roots stretching back to 1753 when Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke opened a small grocery shop in Joure, Friesland. Originally sold under the Douwe Egberts name, the brand was officially renamed 'Pickwick' in 1937. The name was inspired by the novel The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens, a suggestion made by the wife of the company's director at the time to evoke a sense of warmth and literary charm.

Today, Pickwick is a leading tea brand in the Netherlands and Denmark, offering a wide range of black, green, herbal, and fruit-infused teas. The primary manufacturing facility remains in Joure, the brand's birthplace, though production also occurs in other European locations like Belgium to meet international demand.

The brand is currently owned by JDE Peet's, a global coffee and tea powerhouse headquartered in Amsterdam. JDE Peet's itself is majority-owned by JAB Holding Company, a private conglomerate based in Luxembourg that manages a diverse portfolio of consumer brands. Pickwick remains a symbol of Dutch heritage while operating as a significant player in the global beverage market.
