Fjällräven is a Swedish outdoor brand founded in 1960 by Åke Nordin in the town of Örnsköldsvik. Initially established in his family's basement, the brand began with the invention of a functional, aluminum-framed backpack. It is most famous for its 'Kånken' backpack, originally designed in 1978 to prevent back problems among Swedish school children.

Today, Fjällräven is a global leader in sustainable outdoor equipment, owned by Fenix Outdoor International AG. While the brand is deeply rooted in its Swedish heritage and maintains design headquarters there, its manufacturing is decentralized. Production primarily takes place in various Asian countries such as Vietnam, China, and South Korea, though the company maintains a high level of transparency and oversight across its global supply chain to uphold its environmental and ethical standards. Ownership transitioned from a private family business to a publicly listed entity under Fenix Outdoor, which is headquartered in Switzerland but maintains its primary listing on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.
