De Ruijter is an iconic Dutch brand established in 1860 by C.R. de Ruijter in Baarn, Netherlands. While the company began as a small bakery producing aniseed 'muisjes,' it evolved into a premier confectionery brand famous for its bread toppings, particularly its high-quality chocolate sprinkles known as 'hagelslag.'
Today, De Ruijter products are primarily manufactured in the Netherlands, maintaining a long-standing tradition of Dutch craftsmanship in the confectionery sector. The brand holds a 'Royal' (Koninklijk) designation, reflecting its historical significance and status within the country.
Starting as a family-owned business, De Ruijter was acquired by CSM in 1990 and later merged into the H.J. Heinz Company. As of the current global corporate landscape, the brand is owned by the American multinational Kraft Heinz. Despite its American parentage, De Ruijter operates as a cornerstone of the Dutch breakfast culture and continues to be managed through Kraft Heinz's European subsidiaries.
