Founded in 2016 by Koen Bostoen, Louis Chalabi, and Jürgen Degrande, the company was born out of a desire to create healthier, fresh-ingredient pet food inspired by the founders' own dogs, Edgard and Cooper. The brand quickly gained popularity across Europe for its focus on natural ingredients and sustainable practices, including the use of biodegradable packaging.

In May 2024, Edgard & Cooper was acquired by the American multinational food giant General Mills. Despite the acquisition, the brand continues to operate as a separate unit based in Belgium, maintaining its original leadership. While the company produces dry food in the United States and wet food in Denmark, its snack range, including the Pillows cat treats, is manufactured in Germany. This strategic setup allows the brand to leverage General Mills' global supply chain while staying true to its European roots and high-quality standards.
