Wasa is an iconic Swedish brand founded in 1919 by Karl Edvard Lundström in Skellefteå. The brand quickly became the largest manufacturer of crispbread in the world. The Falu Rågrut variety, featured here, is a staple of Swedish breakfast culture, known for its air-filled square holes and crunchy texture. While it remains deeply rooted in Swedish tradition and is primarily manufactured in the town of Filipstad, Sweden, using Swedish rye, the brand has been under international ownership for several decades.

In 1999, the Italian food giant Barilla Group acquired Wasa from the Swiss company Sandoz (now Novartis). Today, Wasa is the world's leading producer of crispbread and continues to operate out of its historic production facility in Filipstad, Sweden, while leveraging Barilla's global distribution network to reach markets worldwide. Barilla remains the ultimate owner, ensuring the brand maintains its legacy as a Swedish icon while being managed by one of Italy’s most prominent food conglomerates.
