The brand LU (Lefèvre-Utile) was founded in Nantes, France, in 1846 by Jean-Romain Lefèvre and Pauline-Isabelle Utile. Over the decades, LU became one of the most prominent biscuit manufacturers in Europe, developing iconic products like the Petit-Beurre and Bastogne biscuits.

While the LU brand has French roots, Bastogne biscuits are historically associated with and primarily manufactured in Belgium, reflecting the regional specialty of spiced speculoos-style cookies. Today, the brand is owned by Mondelez International, an American multinational confectionery, food, and beverage conglomerate. Mondelez acquired LU as part of its purchase of the biscuit division from Groupe Danone in 2007. The product remains a staple in Dutch and Belgian households and is widely distributed across Europe.
