De Ruijter is a deep-seated cultural staple in the Netherlands, primarily known for its traditional breakfast toppings known as 'hagelslag' and 'vlokken'. Originally established in 1860 by Cornelis Willem de Ruijter, the brand began as a small bakery in Baarn selling aniseed-flavored sprinkles (muisjes). Over the decades, it evolved into a household name, receiving the 'Royal' designation in the Netherlands, which is reflected in the crown logo seen on the packaging.
Today, the production of these chocolate flakes remains centered in the Netherlands to maintain the specific quality and taste profile expected by Dutch consumers.
