Ecover is a pioneering brand in the ecological cleaning sector, founded in 1979 by Frans Bogaerts. The company was established with the mission of creating phosphate-free cleaning products to protect aquatic environments. Its first ecological factory, featuring a green roof and sustainable architecture, was built in Malle, Belgium, which remains a core hub for the brand's European production and innovation.
Over the decades, Ecover expanded its footprint globally, becoming a household name for environmentally conscious consumers. In 2012, Ecover acquired the American brand Method, forming a joint entity known as People Against Dirty. This expansion significantly increased the brand's reach in North America and solidified its position as a leader in the green chemistry market.
Today, Ecover is a part of the SC Johnson family of brands. Under SC Johnson's ownership, the brand continues to focus on plant-based ingredients and recycled packaging. Manufacturing takes place predominantly in Belgium to serve the European market, while some product lines are manufactured in France or other regional facilities to optimize supply chain efficiency and reduce carbon emissions associated with transport.
