Puma is a global leader in the sports industry, specializing in performance-driven footwear, apparel, and accessories. Founded in 1948 by Rudolf Dassler, the brand was born from a famous split between Rudolf and his brother Adolf (founder of Adidas). Headquartered in Herzogenaurach, Germany, the company has grown into one of the world's largest sportswear manufacturers.
While its roots are firmly planted in German craftsmanship, Puma's manufacturing has evolved into a global operation. Today, the vast majority of its products are sourced through a network of independent suppliers located in Asia, particularly in Vietnam, China, and Indonesia, which collectively account for most of its production volume. This strategy allows the brand to maintain scale and flexibility in a highly competitive market.
Ownership of Puma has undergone significant shifts over the decades. Originally a family-owned business, it went public in 1986. After years under the majority control of the French luxury group Kering and its parent company Groupe Artémis, the brand's ownership structure became more diverse. As of early 2026, Anta Sports has emerged as a major stakeholder, positioning itself as the largest shareholder to help steer the brand’s expansion in key markets like China.
