Pickwick Spiced Black Tea

Pickwick is a historic tea brand with deep roots in the Netherlands, dating back to 1753 when Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke Thijsses opened their grocery shop, 'De Witte Os,' in Joure. Originally sold under the Douwe Egberts name, the brand was rebranded as 'Pickwick' in 1937. The name was inspired by Charles Dickens' first novel, The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club, suggested by the wife of the director at the time who was a fan of British literature.

Today, Pickwick is a leading tea brand in the Dutch and Danish markets. While the raw tea leaves are sourced from various tea-growing regions globally (such as India and China), the blending and packaging process is primarily conducted in the company's long-standing facility in Joure, Netherlands. The brand has evolved significantly from loose tea to the modern tea bags seen today, including popular flavored and herbal varieties.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned through several major corporate shifts. After being part of the Sara Lee Corporation for many years, it became part of D.E. Master Blenders 1753. Following a merger with the coffee division of Mondelez International, the brand is now owned by JDE Peet's, a major global coffee and tea company headquartered in Amsterdam and listed on the Euronext Amsterdam stock exchange.
