Lacura is the primary private-label beauty brand of the German discount supermarket giant Aldi. Originally introduced in Germany in 1993, the brand has since expanded globally, appearing on shelves in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, and China. The brand is particularly well-known for its 'dupe' strategy, where it produces high-quality skincare and cosmetic formulations that are designed to rival luxury brands at a fraction of the cost.
Manufacturing for Lacura products is conducted through a vast network of third-party suppliers to maintain competitive pricing. While many of the core formulations are developed by German skincare specialists, large-scale production occurs in various regions. Major manufacturing hubs include Germany for the European market and China (specifically provinces like Guangdong and Henan) for global distribution. Each product undergoes rigorous safety and stability testing to meet international standards such as ISO certifications.
Ownership of the brand remains with the Aldi Group. The group is split into two independent legal entities: Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd. Depending on the geographical region, the local subsidiary of one of these two entities acts as the owner and distributor. In the United Kingdom and Australia, for instance, the brand is managed by Aldi Süd, while other markets may fall under Aldi Nord's jurisdiction.
