LU Bastogne Mini's are a bite-sized version of the classic Belgian speculoos caramel biscuit. The brand LU, an abbreviation for Lefèvre-Utile, was founded in 1846 by Jean-Romain Lefèvre and Pauline-Isabelle Utile in Nantes, France. Originally a small patisserie, it evolved into an iconic global brand known for its distinctive red logo and products like the Petit-Beurre. The Bastogne variant was specifically created in 1952 by baker Paul Parein, who named the biscuit after the Belgian town of Bastogne following the Second World War. Its rugged surface was designed to evoke the rocky landscape of the Ardennes region.

Today, the brand is part of the extensive portfolio of Mondelēz International, an American multinational confectionery giant. Mondelēz acquired the brand as part of its snack business spinoff from Kraft Foods in 2012, which had previously purchased the biscuit division from Groupe Danone in 2007. While the brand has French origins and the product has Belgian roots, manufacturing takes place in various European facilities, including locations in the Netherlands and France, to serve its primary markets in Western Europe. The product featured in the image is distributed locally by Mondelēz Netherlands, based in Breda.
