LU (Lefèvre-Utile) is an iconic French brand of biscuits and crackers, originally founded in Nantes, France, in 1846 by Jean-Romain Lefèvre and Pauline-Isabelle Utile. The brand became famous for its Petit-Beurre biscuits and its artistic advertising posters.
Over the decades, LU underwent several corporate transitions, eventually becoming part of Danone. In 2007, Danone sold its biscuits and cereal division, including LU, to the American multinational Kraft Foods. Today, LU is a flagship brand under Mondelēz International, which was created following the split of Kraft Foods in 2012. While its heritage is deeply rooted in France, where much of its production remains, its products are distributed worldwide as part of Mondelēz's global snacks portfolio.
