Wasa is a historic brand synonymous with crispbread, founded in 1919 in the Swedish town of Skellefteå by Karl Edvard Lundström as Vasabröds AB. The name pays homage to the Swedish King Gustav Vasa. The brand's Rounds Cinnamon product is a flavored wheat-based crispbread snack, representing a modern twist on the traditional functional bread. While its roots are deeply Swedish, the brand has grown into the world's largest producer of crispbread.
Since 1999, Wasa has been owned by the Barilla Group, a prominent Italian family-owned food company. This ownership transition integrated the Swedish traditional product into a global distribution network. Most production still takes place in Filipstad, Sweden, and Celle, Germany, with the company maintaining a strong commitment to sustainable practices, having achieved carbon neutrality in 2018 across its operations.
