Wasa is a historic crispbread manufacturer founded in 1919 in Skänninge, Sweden, by Karl Edvard Lundström. The brand has become the world's largest producer of crispbread, known for its focus on whole grains and healthy snack products. Although born in Sweden, the brand’s footprint expanded across Europe over the decades.
In 1999, Wasa was acquired by the Italian multinational food giant Barilla Group. Today, while maintaining its Swedish heritage and a large bakery in Filipstad, Sweden, a significant portion of its specific 'Crisp'n' and wheat-based light cracker production occurs in Germany (Celle) to serve the broader European market. Barilla continues to manage Wasa as a premium health-conscious brand within its global portfolio.
