Vicks VapoRub is an iconic topical ointment used for the relief of cough and cold symptoms. The brand was originally created by Lunsford Richardson in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA, in the late 1890s. Richardson initially named his company the Vick Family Remedies Company, choosing the name 'Vick' to honor his brother-in-law, Dr. Joshua Vick.

Today, Vicks is a global leader in over-the-counter cold and flu relief. For many years, the brand was owned by Richardson-Vicks Inc., which was acquired by the American multinational consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble (P&G) in 1985. Production for the European market, including the Netherlands, typically occurs in specialized pharmaceutical facilities, notably in Gross-Gerau, Germany. P&G continues to own and manage the brand globally from its headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio.
