Vicks is an American brand of over-the-counter medications, including the well-known Vicks VapoRub Ointment. The brand was established in 1894 by pharmacist Lunsford Richardson in Greensboro, North Carolina, initially under the name Vicks Family Remedies Company. The most popular product, Vicks VapoRub, was introduced in 1905 and was originally manufactured by Richardson-Vicks, Inc., the company founded by Richardson. In 1985, Richardson-Vicks, Inc. was acquired by Procter & Gamble, a leading American multinational consumer goods corporation headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. Procter & Gamble continues to manufacture and distribute Vicks products globally. In 2015, Procter & Gamble sold the Vicks VapoSteam U.S. liquid inhalant business to Helen of Troy Limited, a global consumer products company. However, the Vicks VapoRub Ointment remains under Procter & Gamble's ownership and is produced in multiple countries, including the United States, India, and Mexico, to meet global demand.
