KitKat is a chocolate-covered wafer bar confection created by Rowntree's of York in the United Kingdom in 1935. Originally launched as Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp, it was later renamed Kit Kat. The brand grew to international prominence and is now recognized as one of the world's most popular snacks.
In 1988, the Swiss multinational Nestlé acquired Rowntree's, taking global control of the KitKat brand. However, a licensing agreement exists in the United States where the Hershey Company manufactures and distributes the product. Manufacturing occurs globally at various Nestlé facilities, including major plants in the United Kingdom, Japan, and Australia, to meet regional demand. The packaging shown here belongs to the European market, featuring the Nutri-Score labeling often seen in countries like France and Belgium.
