Tempo is one of Germany's most iconic household brands, so deeply embedded in everyday culture that the brand name has become a genericized trademark for disposable paper handkerchiefs throughout the German-speaking world.

The brand was registered in 1929 by the Vereinigte Papierwerke Nuremberg, founded by Oskar Rosenfelder. After changing hands multiple times over the decades—including periods under Schickedanz, Procter & Gamble, and SCA—the brand became part of Essity following SCA's corporate spin-off of its hygiene business.

Essity AB is a global hygiene and health company headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. While owned by a Swedish multinational corporation, Tempo products for the German market are primarily produced at Essity's long-established tissue manufacturing facilities in Germany (such as in Neuss and Witzenhausen) and other European sites.
