The brand gained fame for its chocolate bars and later its 'hagelslag' (chocolate sprinkles), a staple of Dutch and Belgian breakfast culture. The name Kwatta originates from a cocoa plantation in Suriname, reflecting the colonial history of Dutch chocolate production.

Today, Kwatta is primarily managed and manufactured in Belgium. Since 2001, the brand has been under the ownership of the American multinational Heinz, which later merged to become The Kraft Heinz Company. While the brand remains a beloved household name in Belgium and the Netherlands, it is part of one of the largest food and beverage portfolios in the world, managed through regional subsidiaries like Kraft Heinz Belgium.
